July 22nd, 2011 - Supporting Our Future Community Share Proposal to Tottenham Hotspur FC and Haringey Borough Council

We said we wanted to offer a practical proposal based on the opinion of the fans to resume development of a World Class football stadium worthy of the club and its ambition at our current home, White Hart Lane. After a lot of research and some productive conversations with THFC and Haringey Council we have put forward that proposal. The PDF containing the full detail is attached. We encourage everyone interested in Spurs' future to read it and engage with the possibilities it raises. 

We have sent the same document to THFC and Haringey Council after they invited us to submit any plans we could draw together. We believe we have done that but we recognise that the major players in the process will almost inevitably have ideas of their own about what we suggest, so we have tried to be as flexible as possible in what we have set out while at the same time putting forward a coherent set of ideas.

In short, we are proposing a Community Share scheme of the type that has become increasingly popular over the last ten years. Community Shares have proved an excellent source of capital investment and a highly effective way of engaging communities in the work of an organisation. To get to a new stadium, THFC needs to bridge the capital investment gap. And the idea of engaging communities, in all senses of the word, is one which is not only now embraced across the political spectrum but also, we believe, one which should be encouraged in football. In short, this may be an idea whose time has come.

This is an opening set of ideas. We are not interested in anyone being proved right or wrong, and we did not approach this with any purpose other than to offer a practical solution to a problem. We believe that if all concerned approach this in the same spirit this scheme has the potential not only to be successful but to be something which everyone involved can be truly proud of.
